Go Fishing on Free Fishing Day! Jun 7, 2014 #SouthernSummerFun

free fishingHi y'all! I'm writing from St Augustine, Florida to keep you updated on all the cool #SouthernSummerFun. It just so happens that this is National Fishing & Boating Week! You know what that means? Free Fishing for our Southern States of Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama & Florida on June 7th.
Free Fishing Days are declared by the Commissioner of the Department of Natural Resources to: encourage people to try fishing and help celebrate fishing as wholesome and healthy recreation; promote respect for our state's natural resources, wilderness, and wildlife; and recognize anglers for their contribution of billions of dollars to the state's economy and financial support for programs to conserve and protect our natural resources. - Georgia DNR

What happens on a free fishing day, you wonder?
Residents 16 years and older do not need a fishing license, trout license, or Wildlife Management Area license (if you fish at a Public Fishing Area or Waters Creek) to fish the freshwaters and saltwaters.

Before you decide on an event, check out this page for some helpful tips on fishing with kids & some family-friendly fishing locations in Georgia.

Here are some excellent fishing events, for kids, on Jun 7.

Alabama - Jun 7
Each calendar year, the Commissioner of Conservation and Natural Resources designates a "Free Fishing Day" for the public to fish recreationally in public waters without a fishing license.  Saturday, June 7, 2014, had been designated as Free Fishing Day.

Florida - Saltwater Jun 7 & 8, Freshwater Jun 14
Free fishing days provide an excellent opportunity for parents who don't yet have licenses to take youth fishing, or avid anglers to introduce a friend to fishing without having to purchase a license. On these days, the fishing license requirement is waived for all recreational anglers (residents and non-residents).

Georgia - Jun 7
See a list of events happening around GA for Free Fishing Day!

Tennessee - Jun 7
Free Fishing Day is always the Saturday of the first full week in June. Anyone (resident or non-resident) of any age can fish free without a license in Tennessee’s public waters, agency owned and operated lakes, and Tennessee State Parks. Free Fishing Week always follows Free Fishing Day in June. Children, ages 15 and younger can fish for free all week in the waters.
