National Trails Day in GeorgiaAmerican Hiking Society encourages everyone to celebrate National Trails Day 2015 on June 6. This annual event brings together beginning and expert hikers, naturalists, trail crews, and volunteers of all ages at trail networks across the country. Learn more about hiking, walk with a group, play and have fun! Look for your favorite park, or trail, on this list - or discover a new one!

Atlanta Metro
Atlanta Georgia Trails Panola Mountain Guided HikePanola Mountain State Park - Hike up Panola Mountain as the sun begins to set & hike down by moonlight to a campfire with s'mores! Bring flashlight. Register in advance. 8PM
Pickett's Mill Battlefield Historic Site - Witness artillery demonstrations in rememberance of Captain Key's Battery & go on a guided interpretive hike.
Red Top Mountain State Park - Volunteer to help with trail maintenance, then enjoy a guided hike to learn about Red Top Mountain. 10AM
Red Top Mountain State Park - Stick around Red Top after the hikes for a Bluegrass Concert outside the old Vaughn Cabin. 8PM
Sweetwater Creek State Park - Learn about the geology of Sweetwater Creek on a 2-mile hike identifying rocks with a geologist. 10AM
Fayetteville's Ridge Nature Area - Volunteer to help with trail maintenance to help open this community nature area! 8AM

Chattahoochee Nat'l Rec Area, Island Ford Unit - Bring the little ones for an easy stroll exploring along the river 9AM
Chattahoochee Nat'l Rec Area, Cochran Shoals - Join REI to help beautify this trail system near the Chattahoochee River. 9AM
Leone Hall Price Park - Easy, family-friendly hike and adventure at Allatoona Creek. 10AM

Classic South
Magnolia Springs State Park - Join the ranger for a hike of the Fort Lawton Trail and a tour of Magnolia Springs History Center.
Mistletoe State Park - Share National Trails Day with your dog hiking Cliatt Creek Trail.
Phinizy Swamp Nature Park - Children, adults, strollers and dogs welcome on this leisurely 2.5 mile hike. Registration required. 9AM

Historic Heartland
Camp Cook Office High Falls State ParkHard Labor Creek State Park - Take a special 1.25-mile "Intro to Birding," hike with Audubon Society to listen for We will walk at a slow pace and listen for Summer Tanagers, Yellow-Billed Cuckoo's and Great-Crested Flycathers. 3PM
Hard Labor Creek State Park - Enjoy a water trail at night, kayaking and listening for frogs. 8PM
High Falls State Park - Help the volunteer crew clean up the Falls View Trail 9AM
High Falls State Park - Celebrate National Trails Day with your dog! Each dog gets a special surprise. 1PM
High Falls State Park - Take to the water trails on a renger-led 3-mile twilight canoe trip. 7:45PM

Fort Mountain State Park - Many special hikes with naturalists offered in celebration of National Trails Day. 2:30PM
James Sloppy Floyd State Park - Hike to the historic Marble Mine and stick around for more outdoor fun, night hike & campfire. 11AM-8PM
Chatsworth's Tearbritches Trailhead - Volunteer for trail maintenance and bring a dish (and your own dishes/utensils) for an informal potluck afterward. 9AM
Rocky Mountain Recreation & Public Fishing Area - Easy, one-mile nature hike with the ranger. Also, bring your fishing gear & bait for Free Fishing Day after the hike. 10AM
New Echota State Historic Site - Volunteer to help clean up the one-mile loop trail. 10AM

Magnolia Midlands
General Coffee State Park - Discover cool plants and wildlife hiking around Gopher Loop with park guides. 2PM
Gordonia-Altamaha State Park - Hike the one-mile Swamp Bay Nature Trail loop with the Park Ranger. 10AM

Northeast Georgia Mountains
Vogel State ParkVogel State Park - Family-friendly event including group hikes, presentation, and trail improvements. Bring a lunch and meet at Shelter 2. 9AM
Black Rock Mountain State Park - Pass trickling waterfalls and scenic views on the strenuous 7.2 mile James Edmonds Trail Hike 9AM
Don Carter State Park - Easy hike with a naturalist around Huckleberry Point Loop. 10AM
Fort Yargo State Park - Walk through several habitats with a naturalist on a half-mile paved trail. 10AM
Hardman Farm - Take a walk on a designated "Millenium Trail," and possibly the oldest road in Georgia. 10AM, 12:30PM, 3PM
Watson Mill Bridge State Park - Learn the history of the covered bridge on a hike to the old powerhouse ruins. Meet at Bridge parking lot. 9AM
Dahlonega's Jake & Bull Mountain Trail System - Volunteer to work on this multi-use trail system. Chattahoochee Trail Horse Association provides tools and lunch for those who RSVP. 9AM
Tallulah Gorge State Park - Learn about geocaching, hiking, native plants & animals at this Trail Expo. 10AM

Seminole State Park - Hike 2.5-mile Gopher Tortoise Trail with the ranger to learn about local ecosystems. 9AM
Stephen C Foster State Park - Enjoy a ranger-led hike of the Trembling Earth Boardwalk 9AM
Kolomoki Mounds State Historic Site - Bring the whole family on this scavenger hunt adventure along the 1.25-mile White Oak Trail.

Presidential Pathways
FDR State Park - Moderate 3.5 mile hike with Pine Mountain Trail Association. Meet at Dowdell's Knob Trailhead 10AM
Chattahoochee Bend State Park - Join other volunteers for a mile of trail cleanup. 9:30AM

Crooked River State Park - See how you measure up to some of Georgia's native animals at the Animal Olympics. 10AM
Ft McAllister State Park - Join a naturalist for a 3-mile hike of Redbird Creek Trail. 9AM
Ft Morris Historic Site - Take a guided tour around the remains of Ft Morris 1PM
Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation Historic Site - History presentation & hike half-mile hike to plantation ruins and rice field observation deck. 1PM
Laura S Walker State Park - Learn more about the 5 senses on this Sensory Awareness Night Hike 8PM
Skidaway Island State Park - Take a 2 mile guided hike of Sandpiper & Avian Loop Trails 10AM
Wormsloe Historic Site - Learn about civil war history hiking 2.5 miles to Battery Wymberly with a costumed ranger. 10AM
